A Cheesy 80’s Jukebox Musical
Four teenagers use a magical diary to travel back in time to 1980s. At first it seems like a perfect world but soon they realise that this is not just another John Hughes movie, this is reality. With the help from Fairy Godmother, who looks surprisingly familiar to one of their teachers, they will need to figure out how to come back to 21st century. Maybe they will also learn something about themselves on the way…
A Little Bit of Life started its journey as a chamber piece to be performed in one of the social spaces at the University of Roehampton during the latter semester of 2017. Following a year of further development, the show was reinvented to be a larger-than-life, fabulous jukebox musical comedy that both parodied and exaggerated to a ridiculous level, everything we love and hate about the 1980s. From the cheesy music with an absurd amount of key changes to the outrageous over acting of some of the films from the era. The final lines of the original show being “Don’t Stop Believing”, an important message in both a time when the future is more uncertain than ever and in an industry as unpredictable at the arts. The run, being a sell-out, lasted for three days in January 2018 at the Jubilee Theatre, University of Roehampton, produced by the Student Society of Art and Performance.
A Little Bit of Life opened to a 4 Star Review on 11th December 2018.
